The 10th Inter Faculty Debating Championship

IFDC (Inter Faculty Debating Championship) is SEF’s Annual English Debating Championship among Faculties in UNSOED. It aims to socialize the debate in UNSOED, improve the debate competence of UNSOED students, be the media for expressing the interest of English debate, and find the new potentials of qualified English debaters and adjudicators participating in national level debate.

By the theme “Exhibition of Expression”, the 10^th IFDC reflects the spirit in debating of all participants joining the competition. By that theme also, SEF expects that all the participants show their quality and best performance to win the competition. In this occasion, the debate ability of UNSOED students will be developed, thus the new generation of the qualified debaters and adjudicators would be born to be the representatives of UNSOED in the national level such as JOVED (Java Overland English Debate) and IVED (Inter Varsities English Debate).

The X IFDC or the 10^th IFDC held in 28^th-30^th of May 2009 in Soemardjito Building, UNSOED, Purwokerto was participated by 19 teams from 8 faculties in UNSOED, which were Law, Economics, Social and Politics Science, Biology, Agriculture, Animal Science, Science and Engineering, and Medical and Health Science Faculty. This IFDC implemented Australasian Parliamentary System and English as the media of the debate.

The system consisted of three rounds:

• Preliminary Round
• Elimination Round
• Grand Final Round

In this IFDC the preliminary round consisted of four rounds to find the best 16 of 19 teams and 1 swing team, while the elimination round consisted of octo final (best 16), quarter final (best 8), semi final (best 4), and grand final. The grand final is started at 8.00 p.m and the finalists were the debate team of Law Faculty (team B) as the affirmative team and Medical and Health Science Faculty (team B) as the negative team, and the final results of the occasion were:

  1. The 1^st winner was Medical and Health Science Faculty (team B),
  2. The 1^st runner up was Law Faculty (team B),
  3. The 2^nd runners up were Medical and Health Science Faculty (team A), and Economics Faculty (team B), and
  4.  Best of The Best Speaker of The X IFDC was Senia Keliawati from Law Faculty

There were also Saman Dance performed by the Organizers of SEF and Band Performance by The Phillo. And of course the rolling trophy of rector for the winners given by the Advisor of SEF, Mrs. Istiqomah, SE., M.Sc.Agr., Ph.D.
